Star #8 is not difficult but you have to be really careful that the different colors are exactly where they should be.

Cutting
All the measurements include ¼ inch (7,5 mm) seam allowance.

From each of the colored fabrics cut
1 square 1⅝ x 1⅝ inches (4,25 x 4,25 cm)
1 square 2⅜ x 2⅜ inches (6,5 x 6,5 cm) cut once diagonally = triangle A
1 square 3 x 3 inches (8,25 x 8,25 cm) cut once diagonally = triangle B
1 square 3⅞ x 3⅞ inches (10,5 x 10,5 cm) cut once diagonally = triangle C
You only need one triangle from each color and each size.

From the darkblue background fabric cut
4 squares 3½ x 3½ inches (9,5 x 9,5 cm)
1 square 4¼ x 4¼ inches (11,75 x 11,75 cm) cut twice diagonally = triangle B

Sewing
Sew a darkblue and a colored triangle B together as shown in the picture below. Be careful that you join the correct sides. Do this for all 4 triangles.

Lay out the star close to your sewing machine so that you can take the pieces, sew them together and put them right back in the correct space.

Join the two-colored triangles that you just sewed each with a triangle C. Doublecheck the color placement before you sew (ask how I know).

Sew together the center 4patch.
Those of you measuring in inches have to cut back the finished 4patch to the size of 2⅝ x 2⅝ inches. Be careful that the middle of the 4patch stays in the middle.
When measuring in centimetres you don’t have to do this – the size of the 4patch is correct.

Sew a triangle A to one side. Fold the triangle and fingerpress the middle of the long side. This mark should be on the seam between the two squares. Pin and sew.

Sew the next triangle A to the opposite side

and then sew the remaining two triangles.

Now you have only 9 squares left.

Sew them into rows.

Then join the rows to get the block.

Take 4 of the strips 11 x 1 inches (28 x 2,5 cm) that you cut from the background fabric previously (see introduction to the BOM here) and sew 2 of them to opposite sides of your block. They are a little bit too long – shorten them to the block size. Sew the 2 remaining strips to the other sides of the block and shorten if necessary. Finished!
