BOM 2021: Star #10

This star reminds me of a kaleidoscope – and it has almost as many pieces.

Cutting

From the yellow fabric cut 2 squares 2¾ x 2¾ inches (7,5 x 7,5 cm), cut along both diagonals.
From the orange cut 2 squares 2¾ x 2¾ inches (7,5 x 7,5 cm), cut along both diagonals.
From the pink fabric cut 3 squares 2¾ x 2¾ inches (7,5 x 7,5 cm), cut along both diagonals.
From the light-blue fabric cut 6 squares 2¾ x 2¾ inches (7,5 x 7,5 cm), cut along both diagonals.

From the dark-blue background fabric cut
1 square 4¼ x 4¼ inches (11,75 x 11,75 cm), cut along both diagonals,
4 squares 3½ x 3½ inches and
4 squares 2¾ x 2¾ inches (7,5 x 7,5 cm), cut along both diagonals.

Sewing

Join a pink and a background triangle along the long side to make a square. Press open.

Lay a pink triangle on top, right sides together. Orientation exactely as shown below. On the left and on the bottom the edges align.

Sew on the left side as shown below.

Open the triangle. Press.

Lay another pink triangle on top as shown below. Top and right edges are aligned.

Sew on the top as shown below.

Open the triangle. Press and cut away the dogears. You have got a large triangle made out of four triangles.

Sew four pink-darkblue triangles,
eight lightblue-darkblue triangles
and four orange/yellow-darkblue triangles – two with 2 orange triangles and two with 2 yellow triangles.

Lay out the pieces as shown below.

First join two of the triangles

and then sew together these pairs to get squares.

Now you have all 9 squares for this block. Join three of them into rows

and join the rows to get the finished block.

Bravo! Well done!

Take 4 of the strips 11 x 1 inches (28 x 2,5 cm) that you cut from the background fabric previously (see introduction to the BOM here) and sew 2 of them to opposite sides of your block. They are a little bit too long – shorten them to the block size. Sew the 2 remaining strips to the other sides of the block and shorten if necessary. Finished!

I would love to see your finished star-blocks. Please post them in the comments at TheQuiltingSpace’s Facebook page, tag me on Instagram @thequiltingspace and/or use the hashtag #thequiltingspace.

Fall

We have such a beautiful fall here in Austria this year. Blue skies most of the time and beautiful colors. So we set out for a hike today.
