Quilt Week Paducah 2022

Here is a video of the Awards Ceremony in Paducah showing the first, second and third place in every category. What a wealth of the most beautiful quilts – for you and me to watch whenever we want to. Enjoy!

All you need to know about threads

Threads! We need them, we love them, sometimes we hate them – but they are always a bit of a mystery. Cotton or polyester? What is the weight of threads? Do they age? Are there different qualities of threads? Do they effect the tension of my sewing machine?

I found this great video by Karen Brown of justgetitdonequilts.com where she interviews Anita Zobens (@anitazobens on Instagram), Canadian quilter and thread educator who tells us all we need to know about threads. Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy a very informative hour.

Winners at Quilt National 2021

Grab a cup of coffee and have a look at this year’s winners at the presigious Quilt National 2021. Beautiful pieces of art and you even can be part when the happy news are brought to the artist.

And here’s a video by ‘Best of Show’ winner Kit Vincent form Canada presenting her piece ‘Fracas’.

I am missing the Quiltshows

I am really missing the quiltshows! Although I like the online events and really loved some of them (thank you Modern Quilt Guild!), I miss the camaraderie, the exitement, the laughter, the friendship, the harmony, the emotions, the joy, the feeling of belonging together, ……… I could go on and on.

While browsing YouTube I found this great film made for the PBS Short Film Festival in 2020 about Quilt Week in Paducah and it brought all these feelings back to me. So much so that I was close to tears sometimes. It really shows very well what quilting is all about.

If you are missing all the great shows as well – here’s the video. Enjoy!

Art quilts over the years

I found this video by Martha Sielman (executive director of SAQA) where she shows art quilts from 1960 up to now. It’s interesting how styles, fabrics and even sizes have changed over this time. The video itself runs for 50 minutes with another 15 minutes for questions and answers.

So grab a cup of coffee and join me watching …
